Program offers for customers in select communities

Specific geographic areas in our service area are experiencing high growth and an increasing demand for electricity. These areas have the greatest opportunity to reduce demand, which helps us continue to maintain a safe, reliable electricity system as we work to meet B.C.’s electrification goals.

We’re offering customers living in select postal codes of the following municipalities special incentives to reduce or shift their energy use at home:

  • Abbotsford
  • Coquitlam
  • Campbell Heights neighbourhood in Surrey
  • Maple Ridge
  • Northeast Fraser Valley region (Mission to Agassiz)
  • Port Coquitlam
  • Township of Langley
  • Select neighbourhoods in Victoria
  • West Kelowna

The offers

If your postal code is eligible, check out the following special offers to improve your home’s energy efficiency.
 

1. Get up to $3,000 in bonus rebates for energy-efficient home upgrades

Customers living in eligible areas can get a top-up rebate – up to $3,000 – to our existing home renovation rebates for replacing their electric home and water heating systems with heat pumps and heat pump water heaters.

Heat pumps

Heat pumps help you save on heating costs – they’re up to three times more efficient than electric baseboards. Plus, they come with the added benefit of home cooling.

Heat pump water heaters can help you save on water heating costs, being 50% more efficient than standard electric water heaters.

Federal funding and other incentives can further increase the rebates you can get for these upgrades. Visit the program detail pages above to learn more.

  1. Make sure your home is eligible.
  2. Work with a licensed contractor. If you're getting a heat pump installed, you'll need to choose a Home Performance Contractor Network member to be eligible for rebates. 
  3. Complete your upgrade, ensuring your selected product and the installation meet the rebate eligibility criteria: 
  4. Once your upgrade is complete, submit your rebate application online

The top-up amount will be automatically included in your rebate payment based on the postal code of the installation address provided in your application.

2. Enroll your smart home devices, earn $50+

If you have an eligible smart thermostat, load controller, or networked electric vehicle (EV) charger, you can enroll them in our Peak Saver program.

Enrolling your devices in Peak Saver allows us to periodically make slight adjustments to your home's temperature or the timing of your EV charging. You always maintain full override control of your devices. 

The program helps you save energy and helps us manage demand our electrical system. Plus, we'll give you $50 for each type of device you enroll.

3. Earn rewards with our Peak Saver program

Participate in our Peak Saver challenges and you could earn financial rewards toward your electricity bill.

When you shift or reduce your home's electricity use during peak events – periods of up to four hours – you'll earn a reward. For example, reduce your usage by 20% to earn a $3 reward.

  1. Alert: You'll receive an email/text with the date and time of the next peak event, including the challenge reduction target and potential reward. For example, reduce by 20% to earn $3.
  2. Shift or reduce: Shift high-energy activities to before or after the event and reduce your electricity use during the event.
  3. Reward: Earn a reward if you meet the challenge target.

At the end of the program season, your total reward will be provided via a credit on your BC Hydro bill.

4. Free products for lower-income households

We offer free programs for our lower-income customers to help save energy and money. If you meet the income qualification, you can get free products and advice that will help you save energy, lower your energy bills, and make your home more comfortable all year.
