It's vital to know in advance exactly what to do in the event of an emergency, whether it's a power outage or a natural disaster such as an earthquake, wildfire or flood.
Take the time to put together a household emergency plan and a well-stocked emergency kit, ideally with 72 hours of supplies including food and supplies.

Power lines can fall or break during natural disasters such as earthquakes. Treat all power lines as live and dangerous during an emergency.

Ensure that adults and any older children in your home know how to turn off the water, electricity, and gas in your home. Have an evacuation plan.
