Electrical safety
Working near power lines
Coming into contact with power lines on the job can injure or even kill you. Don't let a mistake or accident keep you from coming home safe.
Safe distance from downed power lines
If you come across a downed or damaged line, stay back at least 10 metres and dial 911. Stay back at least 3 metres when working near power lines at your home.
Motor vehicle accidents involving power poles
If you're involved in a car accident with a power line or power pole, never touch your car and the ground at the same time.
At-home electrical safety
Cords, plugs and fuses can be a hazard if used incorrectly. Have a fire extinguisher approved for an electrical fire and know device safety ratings. Keep electrical devices out-of-reach of kids.
Tree trimming near power lines
Trees can become conductors of electricity. Keep yourself and any tools you're using at least 3 metres away from power lines when doing yard work.
