Electric vehicle charger rebate program for single-family homes
About the program
Rebates are available to help homes and workplaces across B.C. get ready for electric vehicles (EVs). The program is funded by the Province of B.C. and administered by BC Hydro and Fortis Electric. If you're a Fortis Electric customer, please apply through the FortisBC website.
Program updates
Effective October 1, 2024 – JuiceBox EV chargers notice
Enel X, which manufactures JuiceBox EV chargers, is discontinuing its e-mobility business in North America. This has impacted the online functionality of JuiceBox EV chargers and has resulted in changes to the products that are eligible for our EV charger rebates. The manufacturer has ensured that these EV chargers will still charge your vehicle.
We're continuing to monitor the industry response to develop alternative solutions to continue to support these chargers.
- If you want to replace your JuiceBox charger with an alternative smart EV charger, BC Hydro is offering a $250 rebate on the purchase of an eligible, second (replacement) charger. Currently, only ChargePoint Home Flex is eligible. This replacement purchase isn't eligible for the base rebate of $350
- If you recently purchased a JuiceBox EV charger(s), please consider reaching out to the manufacturer directly or returning the product to the place of purchase.
- Completed installations of JuiceBox EV chargers at single-family homes that meet our rebate eligibility criteria can still apply for rebates. Applications will be processed as normal until December 31, 2024, as per the terms and conditions.
If you notice any safety defects with your EV charger, please report issues to Transport Canada.
Rebate offer
If you are looking to purchase and install a Level 2 EV charger at home, you may qualify for a Home EV Charger Rebate. These rebates can cover up to 50% of the cost, to a maximum of $350 for the purchase and installation of a charger. Offer applies for chargers installed at single-family homes, row homes, and duplexes.
The EV charger rebate program can be combined with other incentives. If combined, it will be capped so that the total incentives don't exceed the total cost of the equipment and installation.
How it works
If you are installing an EV charger for the first time, we recommend you review our steps for installing a charger at home.
- Purchase a rebate eligible EV charger that meets your needs. Review the list of rebate-eligible EV charger models here.
- Install your charger. You may need the assistance of an electrician, if the installation requires electrical upgrades.
- Submit the required documentation, including proof of purchase and installation, within 90 days of installation.
Eligibility
Chargers eligible for rebate must meet the following criteria:
- Be included on the list of rebate-eligible EV charger models
- Purchased and not leased
- Approved for sale and use in Canada and have cUL, ULC, cETL, CSA, or cQPS certification
- A Level 2 charger, 208V or 240V, and feature a SAE J1772 standard plug head
- New, not used or refurbished
- A plug-in or hardwired charger model
For the purchase and installation of your charger, the following costs are eligible:
- Purchase cost of the eligible EV charger
- Labour and construction costs for installation by a licensed electrician
- Electrical and related permit costs
- Cost of electrical design required for the charging station
Purchase cost of an EV power management device, if required
For the installation of the charger to be eligible, it must meet the following criteria:
- Charger is wall-mounted at the electrical service address provided in the rebate application.
- Electrical permit is obtained. If you're hiring a licensed contractor, they'll apply for this permit on your behalf. Depending on where your property is located, Technical Safety BC or your municipality will issue the permit. Check your jurisdiction.
- The home was built at least six months prior to the charger installation.
Note: This rebate is not available for the costs to only install a 240V outlet.

How to apply
You can apply for this rebate online within 90 days of installing your charger. Before you begin your application, please review and prepare the required documentation.
Required documentation
Make sure you have the necessary documents ready before you start your rebate application. The documents required vary depending on your project.
You'll need to provide:
- Charger invoice showing proof of payment
- Installation invoice (must show proof of payment and itemized costs broken down by activities performed). See a sample invoice [PDF, 457 KB].
- Electrical permit number
- Image of the installed EV charging station
You'll need to provide:
- Charger invoice showing proof of payment
- Inspection invoice showing proof of payment
- Certificate of successful inspection
- Image of the installed EV charging station
An electrical permit is required under this option. Rather than the licensed electrician, the homeowner is responsible for applying for the permit.
You'll need to provide:
- Charger invoice showing proof of payment
- Image of the installed EV charging station
This option is only available to those who had a pre-existing 240V outlet which they plugged their new charger into. If you had to do any electrical work to install the EV charger, you're not eligible to apply through this option.
In your application, you must confirm that you obtained a permit when you originally had the 240V outlet installed. If you're not sure, please contact either Technical Safety BC or your municipality. Check your jurisdiction.
After you apply, we'll review your documents and, if approved, we'll process your rebate payment within 90 days of your application submission.
Smart charger $250 top-up offer
BC Hydro is offering funding of up to $250 for the installation of an eligible smart EV charger at a single family home.
These chargers connect to the Internet, usually by wi-fi and your Internet connection. This allows you to schedule your charging and get more information about your charging and electricity consumption. They may also allow you to participate in any future BC Hydro incentive programs and special rates.

How to apply for the $250
There's no separate application form for this offer. Use the standard online application above. If you're having an eligible smart EV charger installed, we'll automatically add up to $250 top-up to your base rebate, if you qualify for both.
Enroll your smart charger to earn rewards
By choosing an eligible smart charger, you can also enroll your device in our Peak Saver program. This program allows us to shift your charging times outside of periods of peak electricity demand. For this, you'll earn $50 per year.
Not all smart chargers have the demand-response capabilities needed to integrate with our Peak Saver program. We're continuously working with EV charger manufacturers to expand the top-up list.
