Rebates that make purchasing an EV more affordable
Electric vehicles (EV) come with many benefits, but the initial cost may be a barrier to making the switch. Luckily, rebates and incentives are available, helping you make the switch. If you're considering going electric, review the different rebate programs and eligibility criteria for EVs and chargers below.
B.C.'s vehicle rebates
The Government of B.C.'s CleanBC Go Electric program offers rebates to income-qualified individuals. Up to $4,000 is available in rebates for the purchase or leasing of a new electric vehicle.
Here's the breakdown of the incentive amounts for the purchase or lease of each vehicle type:
Up to $4,000 for the purchase or lease of a new battery electric vehicle (BEV) or extended-range (ER)-EV.
Up to $2,000 for the purchase or lease of a new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV).
Up to $4,000 for the purchase or lease of a hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle (FCEV).
Cars with a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of more than $50,000 are not eligible for the incentive. This includes two seaters, compacts, mid-sizes, SUVs and station wagons. Larger vehicles with an MSRP of more than $70,000 are not eligible. This includes trucks and minivans.

Federal vehicle rebates
Get up to $5,000 off the purchase price of a new EV
There are additional incentives for purchasing an electric vehicle in Canada. Qualifying vehicles (battery electric and longer range plug-in hybrids) are also eligible for rebates from the federal government. These rebates range from $2,500 for most PHEVs up to $5,000 for BEVs and a few select PHEVs. Vehicles need to have a base model MSRP of $55,000 or less, with higher values qualifying for larger vehicle types.
Federal incentives are in addition to provincial rebates and are also applied at the point of sale. Pre-approval is not required.

Charger rebates
B.C.'s EV charger rebate program provides funding towards the purchase and installation of eligible charger models.
Home EV charger rebates
If you are looking to purchase and install a Level 2 EV charger at home, you may qualify for a Home EV Charger Rebate. These rebates can cover up to 50% of the cost, to a maximum of $350 for the purchase and installation of a charger. Offer applies for chargers installed at single-family homes, row homes, and duplexes.
BC Hydro is also offering funding for the installation of an eligible smart EV charger. This offer includes up to $250 for single-family home customers. If you're installing an eligible smart EV charger, we'll automatically add the top-up to your rebate.

Apartment, condo and townhome complex EV charging rebates
There are two provincial rebate options to help apartment, condo and townhome complexes support EV charging.
EV Ready rebates
A set of three cohesive rebates to support the costs of creating and implementing an EV Ready plan for your building. This includes purchasing and installing EV chargers.

Standalone EV charger rebate
A rebate to purchase and install Level 2 networked EV chargers at residential parking spaces in your complex. This can cover up to 50% of the costs to a maximum of $2,000 per charger. A maximum of $14,000 in rebates is available per complex. Pre-approval is required before purchasing and installing an eligible EV charger.

There are provincial incentives for the purchase and installation of eligible EV chargers at workplaces. Rebates up to 50% of the cost to a maximum of $2,000 per charger are available while funding lasts. For multiple charger installations, this rebate can cover up to $14,000 per workplace. A business can apply for a maximum of four of their workplace sites, resulting in a maximum project rebate of up to $56,000.
If you're considering taking advantage of B.C.'s provincial charger rebate program, some local governments are partnering with the Government of B.C. and adding to the deal.
SCRAP-IT
Check out SCRAP-IT incentives up to $300
The BC SCRAP-IT program offers incentives when you scrap your existing gas-powered vehicles. These incentives can be put toward the cost of an EV or other low-carbon form of transportation. The incentives apply to purchases of both new and used EVs.
