Our mandate

Clean electricity today – and for the future

It's our job to safely provide reliable, affordable, clean electricity throughout B.C. We plan our system in accordance with good utility practice and consider provincial policy objectives, such as:

  • Keeping costs down for customers
  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions through clean electricity
  • Limiting land and water impacts
  • Supporting reconciliation with Indigenous Nations
  • Supporting the growth of B.C.’s economy

We also consider government policy such as the CleanBC plan.

Legislation that guides our integrated planning process includes B.C.'s Utilities Commission Act and the Clean Energy Act. As a Crown corporation, we must file our plan with the BC Utilities Commission for review and acceptance. We’re looking to file the 2025 Integrated Resource Plan in fall 2025.

And, importantly, we aim to advance reconciliation with First Nations in alignment with B.C.’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act and as reflected in our United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Implementation Plan [PDF, 4.0 MB].
