How to get your home renovation rebate
Upgrading your home to make it more energy efficient can be a big project. To make the rebate process as quick and easy as possible, we've broken it down into simple steps.
Follow these steps to get your rebate
1. Confirm that you're eligible
Review our program eligibility to ensure that your home is eligible.
The Home Renovation Rebate Program and CleanBC Home Efficiency Rebates program can not be combined with funding from the CleanBC Better Homes Income Qualified Program.
Don't know what upgrade to do? You can connect with a CleanBC Energy coach for free to learn about opportunities on how to improve the energy efficiency of your home.
2. Hire a contractor and select the equipment/products
To qualify for rebates, the work needs to be done by a licensed contractor with a GST number and a valid B.C. business license for the trade applicable to the upgrade being installed. We recommend that you get multiple quotes to determine the service provider that best meets your needs. Self installations are not eligible.
Work with your contractor to select equipment or products that are appropriate for your home and that will get you the efficiency improvements you're looking for.
To qualify for rebates, carefully review the upgrade-specific eligibility criteria:

3. Complete the upgrade(s) and gather your documents
Have your contractor complete the upgrades at your home. Ensure that they understand and follow the program eligibility criteria as well as the upgrade-specific installation requirements. It's important that you collect the required documentation that you’ll need when you apply for the rebate.
Review the sample invoices and other documents required for each upgrade type:

4. Apply for a rebate online
Once you have all of your documents ready, apply for your rebate online. Have your electric and gas utility account number(s) on hand.
Deadline: You need to apply within six months of the upgrade invoice date.
If you're planning on making multiple upgrades to get a bonus, you have 18 months to complete your upgrades and submit your rebate applications. You can apply for rebates for multiple upgrades together, just be sure to apply within six months of the invoice date for the first upgrade.
After you apply, you'll receive an automated email including your application reference number.
5. Track your status, receive your payment
Applications may take up to 90 days to process, from the date that all required documents are received. You can track the status of your application online. Once we've reviewed and approved your application, your payment will be issued to you.
An in-home site visit may be required: Some rebate applications are randomly selected for a home visit before a rebate payment is issued. The purpose of the home visit is to verify the equipment/upgrade installed matches what is on the application and the installation was completed according to the best practice guidelines.
If selected for a home visit, our contractor will contact you to schedule the visit. The entire visit will take approximately 60 to 90 minutes. Please make an effort to accommodate the home visit as your application won't be processed until it's complete.
If the site visit does not meet the program requirements, your contractor will be notified and asked to remediate the issue. Once proof of remediation has been submitted by your contractor and has been approved, your application will be processed. If remediation is not completed, your application will be declined.
