Get a $250 bonus rebate on top of existing home charger rebates

As we explore ways to ensure our electricity system stays resilient as electric vehicle adoption increases in B.C., we're offering a new charger rebate top-up that encourages use of select smart chargers.

For a limited time we're offering additional funding of up to $250 for single family home customers who install an eligible JuiceBox smart EV charger. This funding is in addition to the rebate of up to $350 offered by the Clean BC Go Electric EV Charger Rebate Program.

"This rebate top-up assists customers in getting access to EV charging technology that allows them to schedule their charging and get more information about their charging and electricity consumption," said program manager Reid Arkinstall. "In the future, it may also allow customers to participate in new BC Hydro incentive programs and special rates."

How the EV charging top-up works

Our top-up rebate kicks in after the base rebate offered by CleanBC is reached, but the combined rebate amount can never exceed 50% of costs for the purchase and installation of an eligible JuiceBox smart charger.

For example, if eligible costs are $1,200, the customer receives a total rebate of $600, which represents the maximum 50% of customer costs allowed. The CleanBC Go Electric EV Charger Rebate would account for $350 of the rebate amount, and the bonus top-up would add another $250. If eligible costs are $1,000, the customer gets $350 from CleanBC, and another $150 from BC Hydro to get to the 50% rebate maximum.

The top-up rebate applies only to single family home customers. For apartment and condo buildings, there are a variety of rebate offers available. There's a standalone EV charger rebate offer, as well as EV Ready rebates, which help subsidize the cost of planning and installing the necessary electrical infrastructure to support a building's current or future EV charging needs.

JuiceBox chargers available online

Eligible Enel X Way JuiceBox chargers are currently available through various vendors in Canada, such as amazon.ca and EnelX's website.

The top-up promotion will run until March 31, 2024 or until funding is fully committed, whichever comes first. While JuiceBox models are currently the only chargers eligible for the top-up, options from other manufacturers and their brands could be added in the future.

The most powerful of the eligible JuiceBox chargers, JuiceBox 48, recently won in the new EV equipment category of the Consortium of Energy Efficiency's 2022 best product awards. The 48 model is estimated to be up to nine times faster in charging an EV than on regular household current.

JuiceBox chargers feature weather proofing for outdoor installation, plus smart charging via an app that can schedule to avoid peak times of electricity demand. The 48 model can take a long-range (576 km) Tesla Model 3 from a 20% to 80% charge in about six hours.

Eligible JuiceBox chargers [XLS] include the JuiceBox Pro 32 and 40 models, plus the JuiceBox 32, 40, and 48 models.

Rebates for the purchase or lease of an EV

Customers buying or leasing a new electric vehicle in B.C. could be eligible for up to $9,000 in combined federal and B.C. rebates off the after-tax retail price of a qualifying EV.
