Supply issues can't stop the quest for energy efficiency
Customers navigate challenges to complete record number of projects
A worldwide semiconductor shortage exacerbated by a microchip plant fire in Japan. A shortage of shipping containers. Supply shortages in general.
There were plenty of hurdles to getting energy efficiency projects done in the past year. But somehow, BC Hydro customers didn't just get projects done, they did it in record numbers for the second straight year.
"We had one customer whose shipment was diverted to Los Angeles when it was supposed to come to Vancouver, and it was just sitting there," says Tanya Perewernycky, program delivery specialist for the Alliance. "I don't know how, with issue after issue making it so challenging, we still had a record number of projects. Given all they were up against, it's remarkable."
And so, as we hit the end of another fiscal year, Perewernycky's message to Alliance members is to keep up the good work. And please, take the time to ensure that the processing of projects goes smoothly to avoid delays.
Here are a few ways to ensure that happens:
- Check and double-check that you've submitted all project documentation
- If you think you need an extension on a project deadline, let BC Hydro know
- If you've installed a product that's not on the approved list, give BC Hydro a heads-up. It may still qualify and get added to the list.
Need an energy savings incentives refresher? Things you should know
BC Hydro's flagship business energy saving incentives (BESI) program covers upgrades on lighting, HVAC, refrigeration and mechanical technologies. They're designed to shorten the payback period on energy-saving upgrades, and can reduce upfront project costs by as much as $2,800.
