Residential rate design

We're exploring new rate plan options

Our residential customers have diverse and evolving electricity needs, and we're working to update our rate structures to reflect that. We started offering time-of-day pricing in June 2024, and we're continuing to explore more options.

We've engaged with our customers to understand their needs and preferences when it comes to how they’re charged for electricity use. This has guided us as we prioritize and refine our plans.

We plan to file another residential rate application with the B.C. Utilities Commission (BCUC) by June 28, 2024.

Our application may include: 

• An optional flat rate, where there's one price of electricity per kilowatt-hour (kWh) and no tiered threshold.
• Continue to offer the tiered rate, so customers could choose to remain on this rate plan if it works better for them.
• Aligning the rates for homes in non-integrated areas – which are currently more expensive – to be the same as integrated areas.
• Reducing the Basic Charge for residential multi-unit buildings receiving service through one account.

Once we submit the application, the BCUC will undertake an open and transparent review process.

Optional time-of-day pricing is now available

As of June 2, 2024, the residential tiered rate with time-of-day pricing is now available. This new rate plan is optional, and you can decide if it's right for you.

It offers a way to save money on your bill if you can shift usage to lower price periods and supports electric vehicle (EV) drivers who've made the switch to clean electricity.
