Energy efficiency leadership in North America

Since 1989, our Power Smart program has made us an energy efficiency leader in North America, transforming how British Columbians use electricity in their homes and businesses. Combined, these initiatives have achieved over 7,000 gigawatt hours in energy savings since 2008, which is equivalent to the energy used by over 700,000 homes.

Our plan for a more energy efficient future

Energy efficiency is the best and least expensive way for us to to meet the increasing demand for energy in the province. The energy savings from our power smart programs helps defer the need for costly infrastructure projects and provide additional flexibility for our electricity system.

Our energy efficiency plan [PDF,  1.1 MB], released in June 2024, outlines how we're investing over $700 million over the next three years in tools, technology, and programs to help our customers make energy efficient choices and shift their energy use from peak times. This investment is a 60% increase over our previous budget and adds up to 2,000 gigawatt hours of savings, which is the equivalent of powering 200,000 homes.
