Paying Your Bill on Time

You can avoid a late payment charge by paying your bill before the due date shown on the front of this bill. If we receive your payment after this date, we will charge 1.5% per month on unpaid amounts of $30 or more. (When compounded monthly, 1.5% equals 19.6% a year.)

Moving?

Contact us at least 24 hours before you move and tell us when to close your account. You may do this by phone or at www.bchydro.com. You are responsible for all charges until you close the account at your old address.

BC Hydro Charges

Your electric rates are explained in the Electric Tariff. You can find the Electric Tariff on our website at www.bchydro.com. Or go to www.bchydro.com/rates.

Basic Charge

The basic charge partially recovers the fixed costs of providing service, whether or not any energy is used during a billing period.

Rate Rider

The rate rider is applied to the total of all charges, before taxes and levies. Amounts received from the rate rider will be used only to pay down BC Hydro's deferral accounts. BC Hydro uses these accounts to record unexpected costs and prevent sudden rate fluctuations that could result, for example, from higher-than-forecast market prices for energy.

Innovative Clean Energy Fund Levy

A provincial government levy of 0.4% is applied to the total of all charges, before taxes and levies. This levy applies to non-transportation-related sales of electricity, natural gas, grid propane and fuel oil, and will be used to fund investment and innovation in clean and alternative energy.

Returned Cheque Charge

If your cheque is returned because of insufficient funds (NSF) or for any reason, we will charge a handling fee to your account.

Regional Transit Levy

If you have any questions about the regional transit levy, please contact Translink Revenue Dept. at 1700 – 4720 Kingsway, Burnaby, B.C. V5H 4N2.

Pro-Rated Bills

Bills issued outside a normal billing period are pro-rated based on the number of days of service. During a billing period in which a rate change occurs, bills are pro-rated based on the number of days of service at each rate.

Disconnection

If your service is disconnected, you must pay your total bills plus a reconnection charge, before your service is reconnected, and a security deposit may be required. We do not guarantee same-day reconnection.
