What's happening to rates in 2008

The Revenue Requirements Application includes a rate increase for all customers – effective April 1, 2008 - that reflects the operating costs we will require over the next two years. The increase will be 6.56 per cent in the first year and 8.21 per cent in the second year.

We have also applied to create a Conservation Rate that introduces a two-step rate structure for residential customers. This rate structure is designed to encourage conservation and, if approved, could come into effect later in 2008.

For details on rate changes, please see our Residential Rates page.

Current residential rates (effective April 1, 2008)

BC Hydro's residential electricity rates apply to most apartments, houses with or without electric heat, and farms in our service area. Your BC Hydro bill shows the rate schedule and electricity rates that apply to you.

A 0.5 per cent rate rider applies to all charges, before taxes and levies (not included in the charges below).

Rate rider

The rate rider is applied to the total of all charges, before taxes and levies. Amounts received from the rate rider will be used only to pay down BC Hydro's deferral accounts. BC Hydro uses these accounts to record unexpected costs and prevent sudden rate fluctuations that could result, for example, from higher-than-forecast market prices for energy.
