BC Hydro announces Request for Expression of Interest for new power generation source in Atlin
May 31, 2005
1.3 to 2.0 MW of peak supply sought from private sector
ATLIN – BC Hydro has issued a Request for Expression of Interest (RFEI) for a long-term Energy Purchase Agreement in Atlin to replace the existing diesel generation system with a viable, cost-effective and reliable power generation source.
Atlin, which is located in north-west BC near the Yukon border, is part of BC Hydro's non-integrated area and is currently supplied only by diesel-powered generation.
"BC Hydro's goal is for the RFEI to identify a number of qualified short-listed proponents to proceed to a Request for Proposals (RFP) by early September 2005," said Pun Chu, Manager, Non-Integrated Areas.
The RFEI was a recommended step following the completion by BC Hydro of the Atlin Community Energy Plan in April, 2004.
BC Hydro is seeking to supply a peak load of 1.3 MW immediately with potential to increase to 2.0 MW within ten years in this RFEI consistent with the "BC Clean Electricity" definition. The project criteria will also address financial, technical, First Nations, environmental and community concerns.
The deadline for proponent submissions is 4:30 p.m., Monday, July 4, 2005.
