Acquiring Power

Stakeholder Engagement

BC Hydro adheres to the concept of transparent processes. Those affected by our business are kept up to date on our activities and have an opportunity to participate in activities that affect them.

In designing our acquisition processes, we involve:

  • Independent Power Producers (IPPs)
  • First Nations
  • Provincial and local government
  • Customers
  • Industry
  • Environmental groups
  • Non-governmental organizations
  • Other stakeholders

Stakeholder engagement is a critical component to the successful design of acquisition processes.

Clean Power Call

Our electricity needs are growing with our economy. BC Hydro is looking for clean and renewable power to ensure the province's future electricity supply and is proceeding with the Clean Power Call by issuing a Request for Proposals.

Bioenergy Call for Power

BC Hydro is planning a two-phase call for power from generating plants located in B.C. that utilize sawmill residues, logging debris and beetle-killed timber as the fuel source. A successful Request for Expressions of Interest from the private sector occurred in spring 2007 and now BC Hydro is proceeding with Phase I of the Bioenergy Call by issuing a Request for Proposals.

Standing Offer Program

BC Hydro launched its Standing Offer Program designed to facilitate the development of small clean electricity generating projects (10 MW or less) in British Columbia

Fort Nelson Request for Expressions of Interest

To better serve customers in the Fort Nelson area, BC Hydro is exploring options to assess potential future supply resources due to the area's growing need for energy. BC Hydro sought expressions of interest from the private sector to identify clean or renewable projects which could help us meet future load growth in the area.

Net Metering

BC Hydro has set up a process to make the interconnecting of small generating units (with a capacity rating of 50 kilowatts or less) to BC Hydro's distribution system as practicable as possible.

Generator Interconnections

Are you a generator owner or independent power producer (IPP) and need to get connected to the BC Hydro distribution grid?

Whether you intend to synchronize your standby generator, sell the power to BC Hydro or simply use our transmission services, Generator Interconnections provides a single point of contact to help you select and implement the appropriate service options.
