Energy-Efficient Lighting Design

Building for Performance

The Energy-Efficient Lighting Design offer provides financial incentives and tools to help building developers and their design teams create and install more effective and energy-efficient lighting in new commercial development projects.

The Offer

Receive financial incentives for the following energy-efficient measures:

  • A $1,000 incentive for creating a lighting design that meets or exceeds ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1 – 2004 code.*
  • A capital incentive to install the new lighting. The incentive will be based on the total electrical savings of the energy-efficient design.**
  • An incentive of up to $3,000 will be paid for a daylight study. Limited number of studies available.

Optional for new multi-unit residential buildings:

*Small commercial buildings or low-rise residential apartment buildings (6000-18,000 sq ft) must meet or exceed the lighting requirements of ASHRAE 90.1-2004. Large commercial buildings or high-rise apartment buildings (>18,000 sq ft) must exceed the requirements of ASHRAE 90.1-2004 by 10%.

Eligibility

  • For new commercial or multi-unit residential buildings that are over 6,000 square feet.
  • Commercial buildings include: warehouses, offices, retail, mixed-use low and high-rise buildings, restaurants, schools, long-term healthcare and other government facilities, etc.

Once you are in the planning stages of developing a new commercial building or are carrying out a substantial retrofit and have selected a lighting designer, you are ready to register and apply for the Energy-Efficient Lighting Design offer.

Ask your lighting designer to calculate the incentives for your new building by completing the lighting calculator spreadsheet. Submit this spreadsheet as part of your application package.
